Another day, another web site! Added another image to the Grace Baptist web site, and waiting for images and page design for a new venture.
Pleased with the way sophos1 looks now. I’ll have to leave it for a while to see how it is to live with. On the other hand, just maybe, that ‘other sites’ piece of text could do with some work…

Well, another week, another list of jobs to do! I’ve got a couple of web sites to update. I’ve already done some minor tweaks to this site: simplified the style (decluttered) which makes it easier to just read what’s on the page.

Got some investigation into what can and can’t be done with Outlook’s contacts and MS Access. This could be fun, the ODBC driver seems a little slow to get going.

Also got to get into SQL Server properly: a couple of projects using this, which should be fun. I’ve already tested this blog with a copy of the home page running on SQL Server – works fine:-)

The joys of freelancing – When working freelance there is a lot of freedom, but with that freedom comes a rather looser association with ’employers’ (or clients as we prefer to call them)! Along with better rates comes no holiday pay, no sick pay and no requirement for notice to be given before dispensing with your services. Best option is to make yourself indispensible (or at least as close as you can get to this). The best solution is to spread yourself about – lot’s of smaller clients = less reliance on one, less problems if one doesn’t work out, and more varied work, which is a bonus!

Doing some changes to the Grace Baptist Church web site today. Adding a few pictures and one or two minor text changes.
Also got some database design work to do for a Bible College.

Back to the technical stuff again. Just purchased SQL Server for the web hosting. This is a big move from MS Access. This site is acting as the test site. I’ve just changed the connections and recordsets over for the new and edit pages. Now to see if it works.
OK, so it does work! :-). And it edits too – perfect 😉
So, now I can do SQL databases as well as MS Access.

Time for some proper thoughts on this site:

What’s church all about? What’s the purpose of going through the weekly ritual? Is it not solely for the purpose of pleasing the God who we claim to worship? If not, then we might as well craft our Sunday services to please ourselves: some nice upbeat music, something simple for the children and a sermon that encourages without demanding any response.

But, if church is solely to please almighty God and to do service to Him then all we do is not to be judged by what pleases us, but by what we believe will be acceptable in His sight. The Psalmist in Psalm 19 prays this prayer: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer.” Can we honestly pray this as we come together?

Our singing, then must be to honour Him, not to excite our emotions. Our preaching must be preaching that transforms the mind and induces acceptable service – mind reaching heart, which in turn responds to the command with obedience.
The question I ask is simply this: Can you honestly say that this characterises your worship, your church? If not, and if we are truly seeking to please Him, then we must repent of our attitudes and inaction and once more seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness.
