Editing and converting .wav files

Having sorted out the hardware for recording sermons: a lapel radio microphone connected to a Tascam DP 01 I needed to find a suitable method of converting the .wav files to an mp3 file compact enough to listen over the internet.

There is a lot of rubbish out there in the .wav editing department, but I came across WavePad, which is free for the basic version. It is excellent! It does the editing with no fuss and allows saving to mp3 with a choice of rates. Perfect.
